I am going to say this slowly because some people may have trouble digesting it.

I LIKE small waves.

This doesn't mean that I don't like surfing bigger waves, just that I get just as stoked if it's shoulder high and perfect as I would if it was head and a half or double overhead. Is that strange?

I believe this is what happens if you embrace all sorts of surfcraft and get your head around the fact that surfing is about having fun. It's not about having the best wave in a session but just being there and sharing in other people's stoke.

There are those that will of course try and shame you out of it. The macho, wish you were wearing Speedos, Ford Capri 2.8 Laser injection driving nobchods (idiots), as for them waves start at head high and go upwards.

These cavemen-esque, knuckledragging throwbacks can be seen spoiling people's fun and stamping their opinion all over the world. It sounds kind of like 'Ug', 'Ugugug', Ugugugugug.'

What they mean is that they do not like you referring to small waves as waves. You should say small waves.

Their quiver will consist of three boards ranging from 5'10 to to 6'3, the boards must have a point on the front, they will be white, as colour puts too much weight on. Their boards will be lighter than air as they believe themselves (secretly sometimes) to be really, really good. They will talk about how a millimeter here or there on their fins makes all the difference and interestingly enough they are the ones that get angry in the water.

I personally don't like how a standard three fin conventional short board surfs but I do own and occasionally surf one, because you should keep trying things and keep your mind open to new things.

I believe that, hand on my heart, surfing all sorts of different boards on all sorts of different waves will make you a better and more rounded surfer. It will have a massive impact on boards that you have ridden and didn't like and boards you still have to ride. It will give a greater respect for your fellow surfer and above all else you will have the maximum amount of fun and more waves.

Something for every condition.

It can work out a bit expensive though.

Above and beyond the getting more waves thing, I kind of like and possibly prefer the vibe in the water on small days, people cheering each other, hooting and sharing. Maybe this is because it's not so serious, there are plenty of waves, and people are riding the right boards for the conditions.

So don't get into a dick swinging competition, instead, say it how it is. If you had a good day surfing small waves then say it, stand up and be counted. It IS OKAY to like small waves!

Note: While I do believe that all kinds of surf craft are acceptable, I do still strongly advise no one in the world to use a bodyboard. Ever.
