Are we going backwards in time? Hipsters - I am pretty sure they have been done before. 1950's short back and sides - Uuuuu done. 80's uber tight and uber high denim shorts - I was not the only person to watch Baywatch surely.

Perhaps the only good thing to come out of this 'dip into the past' thing (which is nothing new by the way) is the growing re-popularity of single fins and twin fin surfboards. Real surfboards from a more decadent era. These are surfboards that have more in common with love and peace than any other. A time before Simon Anderson stumbled across the right formula of fins and placement which has paved the way the majority of the world views surfing today.

Personally I love all sorts of surf vehicles and believe that a different board and fin set ups suit different waves, styles and feelings that you want to create. Surfing is a free sport that lets you decide how you want to interpret and express the energy in the ocean. Wow, got a bit deep there, sorry but there is no denying that there is a certain 'classiness' to watching a classic single fin surfboard that is being surfed well. There is that undeniable realization that you have to accept the waves' energy instead of creating resistance and fighting against it. Sorry, I have gone all weird again. I watched a short clip from a Brazilian single fin shaper that makes a bit more sense than me. Have a look at this little teaser.

There we are, much better. I think that is my point and case right there. Now the only thing left is to nip down to the charity shop and see if I can find some Hasselhoff style red tight swimming shorts so I can go to the beach and feel like I will not stand out. Anybody got a walkman I can listen to my mixtape on?
