Jazz and surfing, I did not know they actually went together. I have just recently found out that if you stick some speakers on the beach, slap on some smooth elevator jazz and boom... you surf like Joel Tudor! Below is an example of what I mean, featuring....uummmm, well Joel Tudor.

There we have the proof that jazz makes you surf well, without the jazz soundtrack, doubtful that Joel could even stand up.

But seriously, let's talk about one of the best longboarders of our time, Joel Tudor. He does have a bit a reputation of 'knowing' he is a good surfer, but he seems like he is trying to do good things for the sport. Following a world championship tour win on the WCT Longboarding circuit, Joel took a step back from the ASP after a difference of opinion in how longboarding waves should be judged, and what sort of conditions, manoeuvres  and equipment are and should be involved.

Joel started his own competition called the 'Joel Tudor Duct Tape Invitational', the emphasis being on below head high fun waves, which is what Joel says surfing longboards should be about and you know what I am with him on that one.

Have a little look at the latest Duct Tape comp at Noosa Heads in March of this year. It looks like they sure are having fun.
