Great ideas are born everyday, but not every one of them gets the recognition on that day, and not only that but sometimes they goes to the wrong person.

‘That's business...’ people might tell you. The Bill Gates and Steve Jobs of the world know how to operate on that level, but what about the people that actually have the ideas? Surely they are the people that should get (at least) the recognition.

What am I talking about? I am talking about an awesome idea that came across our doorstep, quite literally.

I would like to introduce you to Ricardo who, well, just watch the video and then tell me this is not awesome.

We were so impressed that we wanted to ask Ricardo some questions and he kindly agreed.

SB: Hey Ricardo, where are you based? How are the waves there?

Ricardo: First of all I want to thank Surf Bunker for the interest in our project. We are from Granada, in southern Spain and our regular surfing and kite surf spots are nearly 300 km (186 miles) away in Cádiz (Tarifa, El Palmar...) The waves are of very good quality, Tarifa is an amazing site that may really surprise you and is known for the wind that makes it an ideal spot for kite surfing, in El Palmar the east wind at full impact is offshore and makes really good hollow waves, plus the beach is beautiful, I encourage you to visit southern Spain.

SB: The real question on our lips is, do they really work as good as the video? Because that looks awesome.

Ricardo: It works even better (laughs), our intention has always been to be honest. We have done many tests with wind and speed and in fact we have been using the prototype you see in the video for a year to go to our favorite spots.

SB: When did you have the idea first of all and where did it come from?

Ricardo: I'm like almost all those who have no fixed roof rack on the car, I used to use the traditional systems with straps that cross inside the car, but the door seals began to deform and that bothered me a lot, but the biggest problem was on rainy days because water seeped inside the vehicle, and it was on one of these days when I decided I would have to devise a system that would solve these problems and that's how our Magnetic Surfboard Rack was born.

SB: Did it take a lot of time to get the prototype working? Did you have any issues?

Ricardo: What took a long time was to get the exact configuration we wanted. Each piece has a purpose and everything is studied. We considered many different aspects such as the aerodynamics of the system, durability, quality of materials, ease of use... Another very important aspect that we wanted to have in our Magnetic Surfboard Rack is that it is adaptable to most vehicles and all kinds of boards.

SB: When you get the funding, where will it be produced or made?

Ricardo: If we get the funding, our idea is to produce in Granada which is in southern Spain because that's where we live.

SB: Do you have other amazing idea like this?

Ricardo: Yes, but has not yet come on the market, we are in the final phase of development. In fact, our brand name Giraffe is inspired by this other product that we will launch soon. We also have many other ideas that we hope to accomplish.

SB: Where and when will we be able to buy a set of these?

Ricardo: We currently have a Kickstarter campaign until September 30, 2016 in which you can buy our Magnetic Surfboard Rack at a great price because you save 30% on the RRP that will be in place once the campaign has finished, then you can buy it from our website and other digital platforms. In addition, we are in discussions with potential distributors.

Again thank you very much to Surf Bunker and all it's readers please support us on Kickstarter!!!

SB:  We imagine it won't be long before you see stacks of hire cars with these on the top, such a simple, elegant and improved solution. We will be supporting Ricardo and his team at Giraffe for sure via the Kickstarter campaign and can't wait to see what the other ideas are coming from their camp. Check it out here.
